Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa reopened to the public on Friday, August 28, marking an important step forward following the Bald Range wildfire and the evacuation of Summerland earlier this month.
While the resort was closed to the public for a few weeks, it has been providing accommodation for people displaced by the wildfire, as well as personnel fighting the fire, restoring critical infrastructure and helping residents safely return home. The resort will continue to accommodate those who need its support as regular guest operations resume.

"We are incredibly happy to be able to welcome guests back to Summerland,” says Lisa Jaager, general manager of Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa. “There is still recovery ahead for our community, and we continue to be grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to protect Summerland and help people return home. Reopening feels like another positive step forward.”
Guests returning to the resort can once again enjoy its waterfront setting, outdoor pool and hot tubs, along with paddleboard and kayak rentals. Boat rentals reopened on August 28 and operate from 9 am to 3 pm, Thursday through Monday, until September 21.
Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa is also inviting the wider community back to the waterfront, with free live local music on Saturdays at 7pm on September 5, 12, and 19.
The performances are open to everyone, not just resort guests. Locals and visitors are encouraged to come down, enjoy live music by Okanagan Lake and spend some time together as Summerland moves forward.
“We really want our neighbors to know that this invitation is for them too,” says Jaager. “Come down to the waterfront, listen to some local music and enjoy being together. After everything our community has been through, it will be wonderful to see people gathering here again.”

The resort is not the only waterfront business welcoming people back. Neighbouring Shaughnessy's Cove also reopened on Friday, August 28, while iKhaya Day Spa at Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa reopened earlier in the week.
The reopening comes with an invitation for British Columbians to support Summerland's recovery by returning to the community and supporting its tourism and hospitality businesses.
“Visiting Summerland is one very tangible way people can help,” says Jaager. “Stay with us or another local accommodation provider, have a meal, visit a winery, shop at a local business and experience what makes this community special. Every visit helps support the people and businesses that call Summerland home.”
There is still recovery ahead for Summerland, and Summerland Waterfront Resort & Spa remains grateful to the crews, neighbours, and community members who worked so hard to protect this place. The resort team looks forward to welcoming guests back to the lake.
